Advanced Program
About the Program
- Recommends that applicants be at least 14 years old
- Is more academically rigorous than the Standard Program
- Prepares students to enter competitive colleges or universities
- Requires two years of a world language, writing and literature, and upper-level math and science courses
- Requires students to complete 24.0 credit hours; most required courses are worth 0.5 credit hour
- Requires completion of at least three courses every six months (an extension may be granted if extenuating circumstances arise)
- Prepares students to take the ACT or SAT
- Requires that students complete a minimum of 3.0 BYU Independent Study credit hours, regardless of the number of credits earned at other schools
- Students receive an official high school transcript upon completion
Note: Although most colleges accept credits from the BYU Independent Study High School Programs, students should always consult with their intended college before enrolling.

Concurrent Enrollment Courses:
Concurrent enrollement courses count for one BYU Independent Study high school credit and three BYU university credits. To participate in concurrent enrollment courses students must have completed at least 12 high school credits and have at least a 3.0 GPA.
