Common Core

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. Below are the courses we provide that encompass the Common Core State Standards.

The different types of each course are listed below. If there is an active link, that course and type is available for enrollment currently. The other courses and types are in progress and we will be updating this list as they become available.

INTEGRATED AND TRADITIONAL MATH COURSES

Our math courses will now be delivered in two models: a traditional model (still called ALG 051, 053, 055, 057; GEOM 041, 043) and an integrated model (called MATH 051, 052, 053, 054, with 055 and 056 to come). The integrated model teaches the same concepts, just in a different sequence. Both sequences are logical and both are equally effective; the only difference is the sequence and that different states require different sequences.

Students in states requiring the integrated model should take the MATH series. Students in states using the traditional model should take the ALG and GEOM series. In the traditional series, ALG 051 and 053 should be taken first. Students then can choose to take either ALG 055 and 057 or GEOM 041 and 043 in whichever order suits them. Those in the integrated model should progress sequentially in number order. If you are unsure as to which model your state is using, contact your school district or state education department.

In addition to the changes described above, a number of other improvements have been made to our math courses. First, the instructional graphics have been updated for mathematical accuracy and stylistic consistency. Second, the Math Labs have been converted from CD-ROM to online labs. Third, mid-course and end-of-course review assignments have been added to each course to measure retention and give extra attention to certain problem types.

ENGLISH COURSES

Our new series of high school English courses retains all the learning activities and objectives found in the original courses, but now includes more writing, reading and public speaking activities and assignments. These courses meet most state standards as well as the new standards from the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
