Introduction

Good writing skills can be enormously valuable, both in college and beyond. To begin this course, we will define technical communication and explore the writing processes people employ when creating technical documents. At the end of this lesson, you will be asked to discuss your own writing process and identify what you want to learn from this course.

Lesson Objectives

When you have completed this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

  • Define technical communication, including identifying ways in which technical communication is user-oriented
  • Define genre and understand how it applies to technical communication
  • Identify writing processes
  • Describe your own writing process
  • Set writing goals
